Latest Updates from Our Project:

I got these photos five minutes ago. On the left are the dice I sent as a sample of the sort of colour I was looking for, on the right is the manufacturers sample.

Now, the detail of the engraving does diminish on the smaller faces, and I still need to check them out in person (they're being sent to me next week, hopefully they'll arrive quickly), but at a glance I think they look pretty awesome.

The cost of doing a run of multisets is a lot more than the quotes I originally received, but at this stage, all things going well (fingers, toes, eyes, knees, arms, and heart crossed) I think it's worth doing. If everything checks out when I have the sample in hand I'll sort out prices and put out an update so anyone who wants to add a multiset (or switch to a multiset from their D6s or D20s) can let me know and I'll make the changes manually in backerkit.

Quick update, the manufactures have told me that the first round of Dragon Bagon samples will be ready next week, and the dice samples will be ready next week ^_^.

They'll take a week or so to ship to me, then hopefully we can make some more progress.

The Slack Wyrm batch is also done. We're now waiting on pieces from the cutter, it's looking like the double size batch of pieces will get to us first (lower numbers to cut, plus they're bigger so less fiddly). I'll probably send out any solo double size Dragons and solo Slack Wyrms in the next fulfillment batch.

Dice progress and a question
over 1 year ago – Sat, Sep 29, 2018 at 02:33:15 AM

Super sorry about yet another update in such a short space of time but I know that the folks waiting for dice info haven't heard much and I wanted to keep you in the loop.

Ok, so further discussion with the dice manufacturer. At this stage it's looking like it will actually be cheaper to produce multisets than it would to produce individual d20s and d6s. So this presents us with a sort of double edged sword.

On the one hand, multisets tend to be more popular. On the other hand, I won't be able to produce extra D6s and D20s, so for those who want say a set of ten D6s, or two D20s, we'll need to pick them out by hand. This will mean up to about 750 incomplete sets left. That being said, sets of D10s and D4s have their own followings too.

So my question is, if the quality of their colour sample is up to scratch, would any of you lovely folks prefer to switch from individual dice to multisets? I had planned that if I did multisets to sell them for around $20 NZD (approx 13.50 USD, 10 GBP, 11.50 EUR) but I'm thinking for existing backers it would be cool to do a discount (obviously your existing credit would still count as well).

For an engraving sample they seem to prefer number 3 or 4. Personally I'm leaning towards number 3. I suspect that's due to the limitations of engraving on the smaller side of the D20s.

Design number 3 seems to be the one they're favouring for engraving

Also, the missing pieces for the pumpkin spice dragons arrived, and were missing a few pieces still. I really should have known a halloween themed batch would be cursed. In any case we had enough pieces to cover all the solo orders for the batch and those have gone out. Doing that batch first helped to finetune the process further.

The pieces for the Slack Wyrm batch arrived with the missing pieces, and so far we haven't found anything short. We started on that yesterday. I'm hoping we can clear it by next week and then it'll be either the double or standard size custom colour batches, whichever the cutters get back to us first.

Teeny tiny little update - I've seen a stock sample from a dice manufacturer. The colours are wrong but the effect is nice and their engraving detail is good. They have a higher minimum order but if it gets the job done I'll try my best to find the funds for it. I've ordered a proper colour sample now to see if they can produce a nice enough colour combo :).

Samples and such

A few things have progressed so here's where we're at.

All the drakelings are now complete. Those who ordered just a drakeling should have received a notice to finalise their address by now.

About half the pumpkin spice Dragon Bagons are done. There were pieces missing from the batch that came from the cutters, so they cut us some new ones, which the postal service then lost, so I'm waiting for the replacements for the replacements. While we've been waiting we've been finetuning the pattern, and making a handful of double size and standard size custom colour Dragon Bagons just to keep moving. The main run of custom colour Dragon Bagons will be cut out by the cutters, and I've ordered a LOT of fabric for them. So far their work has been pretty good, they can even drill out the eye holes for us, and do the clipping alongside the cutting, so it saves us a lot of work.

We've also finished the lone First Gen Dragon bag.

Fabric has been sourced for the various manufactured Dragon Bagon colours and work has begun on three samples - Black/Red, Purple/Teal, and Rainbow.

I'm chipping away at the super custom Dragon Bagons, but I'm waiting on an order of scales to arrive, in the meantime I'm sewing beads on by hand.

With the various roadbumps we've had, the waves system I planned has gotten somewhat turned around, but we'll be returning to it once we get the the main custom colour run cut out.

Also, there's a possible deal in the works that might make manufacturing the Rainbows a lot more doable. I can't say much yet, but once we have things nailed down I'll update you folks :).
